ABUJA, NIGERIA — Working People United (WoPU) has officially conferred its prestigious "Responsible Citizen" designation upon the Honourable Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Engr. Muttaqha-Rabe Darma
The decoration ceremony was led by Com. Prince Akporeha Williams, the National Coordinator General of WoPU, during an official delegation visit to the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja. The honour underscores Dr. Darma’s distinguished track record in public service, institutional accountability, and his strategic management of Nigeria’s housing and urban development sector.
Speaking at the presentation, Com. Prince Akporeha Williams emphasized that the "Responsible Citizen" designation transcends conventional awards. It serves as a symbolic testament dedicated to all meaningful citizens of Nigeria who maintain unwavering faith in the nation’s progressive ascent and believe deeply that Nigeria will be great again.
"This honor is a reflection of a shared vision for national transformation," Com. Williams stated. "It belongs to every patriotic Nigerian who refuses to give up on our collective future. Engr. Muttagha Rabe Darma embodies this spirit through inclusive, institutional leadership. His open-door policy, focus on urban renewal, and commitment to accessible housing for low- and middle-income earners mirror the core values of WoPU. He stands as a beacon of responsible citizenship, proving that through dedicated service, Nigeria will indeed be great again."
Since assuming office under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Dr. Darma has systematically advanced critical national infrastructure objectives. The WoPU leadership highlighted several key milestones underpinning this recognition:
• Strategic Housing Infrastructure: Accelerating Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) to deliver thousands of comprehensive housing units globally, including the Karsana Housing Estate in Abuja and the Renewed Hope City initiatives.
• Equitable, Pro-Worker Policies: Implementing sustainable cross-subsidy models within federal housing frameworks to ensure civil servants and average working families can achieve viable homeownership.
• Socio-Economic Value Creation: Stimulating the economy by generating over 15,000 direct and indirect jobs across the construction value chain, contributing significantly to localized poverty reduction.
In his acceptance remarks, Engr. Muttagha Rabe Darma, PhD, expressed profound appreciation to the leadership of WoPU, noting that the accolade serves as both a validation and an impetus for heightened public service.
"This recognition is dedicated to the entire team at the Ministry, our developmental partners, and every Nigerian citizen working toward the restoration of our national pride," Dr. Darma remarked. "Our mandate remains absolute: to eliminate bureaucratic bottlenecks, bridge the national housing deficit, and ensure that dignified shelter becomes an accessible reality for the Nigerian workforce. We remain steadfast in our belief that our nation is rising."
Working People United (WoPU) is a prominent national progressive organization committed to socio-economic advocacy, civic accountability, and bridging the gap between public governance and the welfare of the working-class populace across Nigeria.
