FG Urges Tertiary Institutions To Prioritize Innovation For Economic Growth
The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Aluasa urges Nigerian tertiary and research institutions to prioritize practical teaching, research, and innovation to Dr address the country’s developmental challenges.
He stated this at the TETFund National Exhibition Fair in Abuja, with the theme, "Technologies for Massive Generation of Jobs and Wealth Creation Among Nigerians".
In his speech, Dr. Alausa highlighted the ministry’s strategy to focus on technical and vocational studies, emphasizing their potential to revitalize the nation’s economy.
He encouraged researchers and innovators to contribute to economic growth and industrialization through their work in vocational studies.
He further stressed the importance of research for sustainable development and urged youths to take advantage of government-provided opportunities for skill acquisition.
Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu, expressed appreciation for TETFund's pivotal role in advancing research and innovation in Nigeria.
He commended the initiative for fostering collaboration between the government, institutions, and the private sector to drive economic growth and development through research and technology.
TETFund Board of Trustees Chairman, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari, advocated for the protection of intellectual property rights in the country.
He assured that the board would create an enabling environment for TETFund to transform Nigeria’s tertiary institutions into centers of technology and innovation, attracting investment.
He also called on education stakeholders and development partners to invest in research and innovation.
TETFund Executive Secretary, Mr. Sonny Echono, reiterated the agency's commitment to innovation and research, which he identified as crucial for revitalizing the country's economy. He encouraged youths, researchers, and technologists to use the exhibition as a platform to create job opportunities and foster self-reliance.
