Manhattan’s lone wild turkey has officially chosen her kingdom — and it’s right in the heart of New York City.

After months of wandering through New York City, the city’s only known wild turkey has now made The Battery — a busy waterfront park at the southern tip of Manhattan — her new home.

She first captured attention while quietly roaming the peaceful gardens of Roosevelt Island. Then came a short but chaotic adventure through Midtown Manhattan, where she dodged traffic and startled commuters.

By last spring, she had glided downtown and settled comfortably among crowds of tourists heading to the
Statue of Liberty ferries. Despite the noise, movement, and constant activity, she has adapted perfectly — becoming a charming and unexpected resident of one of the world’s busiest neighborhoods.

New Yorkers now see her as a small symbol of wild resilience in a city made of concrete and chaos.
