HONORAUBLE MINISTER OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT ARC.AHMED MUSA DANGIWA PRESENTS FEDERAL MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT 2025 BUDGET PROPOSALS TO THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

Yesterday, the Hon. Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa had the privilege of presenting a report on the Ministry’s 2023 Supplementary Budget, 2024 Appropriation Act, and 2025 Budget Proposals to the Senate Committee on Lands, Housing and Urban Development and the House Committee on Housing and Habitat.

During the presentation, the Hon. Minister highlighted key aspects of the 2023/2024 budget performance, including:

·  Kickstarting the Renewed Hope Housing Programme, which currently has over 10,112 housing units (3,500 units funded through budgetary allocation and 6,612 units through Public-Private Partnerships) under construction in 13 states and the FCT, creating over 252,800 jobs.

·  Ongoing work on uncompleted projects under the National Housing Programme, initiated in 2016.

·  Expansion of the National Urban Renewal and Slum Upgrade Programme across over 100 sites nationwide.

·  Construction and rehabilitation of Federal Secretariats.

To maintain momentum, deepen ongoing programmes, and implement necessary reforms to address Nigeria’s housing and urban development needs, the Hon. Minister solicited the National Assembly’s support for an increase in the Ministry’s 2025 budgetary allocation from the 2025 envelope of N83.7 billion to N360 billion.

With this funding, the Ministry aims to achieve the following:

·  Delivering 20,000 affordable housing units annually.

·  Expanding the Renewed Hope Housing Programme to cover the remaining 18 states, with 250 housing units per state.

·  Completing the National Housing Programme.

·  Completing Federal Secretariats in six states: Anambra, Bayelsa, Ekiti, Nasarawa, Osun, and Zamfara.

·  Constructing five new Federal Secretariats in Abia, Ebonyi, Kebbi, Kogi, and Taraba.

A key focus of the 2025 budget proposal is boosting artisanship in the housing sector to ensure quality construction. To achieve this, the Ministry plans to complete the Building Craft Training Schools in Lagos and Imo States as part of the National Artisan Skills Acquisition Programme.

Furthermore, reducing the proliferation of slums and improving livability in rural, semi-urban, and urban areas remains a major component of the Ministry’s Urban Development Mandate. In this regard, the Ministry is set to expand the National Urban Renewal and Slum Upgrade Programme, which includes:

·  Construction and rehabilitation of roads.

·  Provision of culverts, water supply, and sanitation.

·  Installation of streetlights and drainage systems.

The plan targets 100 additional sites across the six geo-political zones, including the FCT.

The Hon. Minister expressed deep appreciation to the leadership and members of the Senate and House Committees overseeing the Ministry, as well as the entire National Assembly, for their unwavering support. Special recognition was given to His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Lands, Housing and Urban Development, and Distinguished Members, as well as Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, Chairman of the House Committee on Housing and Habitat, for their contributions towards ensuring the Ministry’s mandate is fulfilled.

The Ministry looks forward to the National Assembly’s positive consideration of the proposals as it continues working towards the actualization of the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
